織凌(Zhīlíng) is Yanyi Metalworks’ secondary line, built around the idea of interwoven threads. From raw materials and production to the final user, every stage is closely connected, reflecting the idea that nothing exists in isolation.
Forging and grinding are carried out in Yangjiang, China’s renowned centre for kitchen knife production. The blade uses Japanese SLD steel, known for its strong edge retention, high wear resistance, good toughness, and clean sharpening response. It offers significantly better corrosion resistance than traditional carbon steel while retaining the cutting performance and sharpening feel appreciated by many knife enthusiasts.
After forging and grinding are complete, Mr. Yao carries out the final inspection and personally adds the hand engraving.
At a time when Japanese-made stainless steel yanagiba knives can be difficult to source, Zhi-Ling offers a compelling alternative. It combines Japanese SLD steel, Yangjiang craftsmanship, careful finishing, and Yao’s personal inspection, delivering strong performance without the price or availability limitations of many comparable Japanese-made knives.
